Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to the Overcomfort podcast. Thank you guys so
much for choosing to listen to today's episode, and happy
International Woman's Month. I know day just passed this last weekend,
March eighth. If you are a woman and you're listening
to this, this episode is for you, even for men.
If you guys are tuning in, we are going to
be talking about what it means to be a woman
(00:21):
and how women should be treated. Please please please stick
around because it is a topic so important to me.
I am surrounded and admired. I have admired so many women,
especially my mother and my sisters and a lot of artists,
but I want to talk about what it means to
be a woman to me. Originally, this episode was going
(00:43):
to be with my nieces. I wanted to get their
perspective being young and what it means to them and
how important it is to them and how they see
the world in society, and you know, it's good to
see a different perspective. But unfortunately wet so it's just me,
solo dolo, and we're going to be talking about it
(01:05):
and hopefully it empowers you. And if you're feeling down today,
if you're feeling less than or if you've been in
situations for example, trigger warning, domestic abuse, any type of abuse, emotional,
sexual harassment, all that. I just want to empower you today.
(01:25):
You are worth more than those, than the circumstances that
you've been through, than what people tell you, what others
may say, because you are loved, You're wonderfully and fearfully made,
and there is nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, that is going
to define your worth other than God and what He
can offer you. So we're going to be exploring what
(01:50):
it means to be a woman and how women should
be treated in today's society. This is going to be
probably a hot take, you know, give me your opinions,
let's continue the conversation. Message me da meme, leave a comment, review, whatever,
but let's start talking about what it means to be
a woman today. Throughout history, women has been defined in
(02:14):
so many ways. Obviously the biology, culture roles in society
we have, you know, and personal identity roles in society.
As far as the men should be the one to
lead the men should, you know, Statistically men are supposed
to have a better job than women. They're not, I
don't want to say supposed to, but majority of the
time they do. A lot of people think that it's
(02:37):
less than a woman shouldn't be. You know, women aren't
capable to lead. But women make almost fifty percent of
the world's population, and yet they get treated so differently.
Being a woman can mean so many things, like psychological
aspects such as menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause. Obviously all that
(02:59):
are are different, They're meant to be different. Aside from that,
I feel like our bodies are so beautiful. We can create,
we have the power to create something so beautiful, and
you know, it obviously sucks. I'm gonna be, you know,
completely honest to my but girls, I like when that
time a month comes, I'm like, damn. Like, men don't
(03:21):
ever get like it's they got it so easy. They
don't have to worry about any of this. They just
got to worry about taking care of bound there barely
but for real, I get through those little moments, and
we also have to deal with menopause and all that
in our hormones, and it just sucks because it does.
(03:42):
We do get treated differently in those ways. Like I
would assume that you would treat them more carefully and
with more thought, but they don't social expectations. Women are
often expected to balance work, family, and personal ambitions. So,
for example, a lot of machishthas think that women should
(04:05):
be stay at home Mom's full respect to all the
women that want to, but the woman that don't and
have this man like, no, you're gonna stay your ass
home and you're not gonna work. You're gonna take care
of the kids, and you're gonna make sure there's food
on the table when I get home. But her dreams
are dying. What if this woman wanted to, I don't know,
(04:25):
has a dream to start something, to sell something, to
go out there, or she wanted to be a nurse,
but she couldn't because she, you know, has a very
strict husband, which is also not fair if you are
in those situations. If you, guys, at any point in
this episode need help, please please please contact the domestic
(04:48):
violence line or a therapist or someone to help you,
someone a close friend, et cetera. I'm here. But yeah,
they're expected to just kind of of like, so you
want the woman not to lead, but you want her
to balance the home, the personal life, et cetera. You
know what I mean. So it's kind of like a contradiction.
(05:10):
Personal identity as gender is increasingly recognized as a spectrum,
with some individuals identifying as a woman regardless of biological factors. Obviously,
there's no single definition of what it means to be
a woman. It's shaped by your personal experiences, society, and
how you grew up. And I'm gonna ask you guys
the same question for me, what does it mean to
(05:31):
be a woman? To be empowered, to be a leader
in my own way, in my own path, to reproduce,
to guide, and I mean lead, not as far as
like against a man, but with a man, and lead
my children although I don't have children, but lead my
children and the future generations and those around me. I
(05:56):
feel like we hold so much power, and we hold
so much grace that we're able to empower other women,
and even mentally, I feel like we have it harder,
Like our emotions are hormones, aren't mean something way more
than a lot of people take that they take for granted.
And I know also I gotta find that statistic as well.
(06:20):
But I know women are a lot smarter than men.
So men, do not start, do not play with us
women like we are already ten steps ahead I believe
and I'm gonna look that up too, how many women
are in the CIA, because I feel like, if you're
just just a little bit like a little bit crazy
Foxica like me, you you're gonna search and you're gonna know,
(06:45):
and like you know, especially when it comes to a relationship,
like we know when we know, our intuition is so
so powerful that men don't realize. But anyways, going back
to the gender gap, to this day, there's a lot
of challenges women face, significant barriers and various aspects of life.
(07:07):
They earn eighty two percent eighty two cents for every
dollar earned by men. Like the gender pay gap, it's
even wider for women of color. One and three women
in the worldwide. In the worldwide, one and three women
worldwide experience physicals or sexual violence in their lifetime. And
it domestic violence increased by twenty five to thirty three
(07:28):
percent during COVID lockdowns, which is sad because obviously, you know,
everyone has their own personal experience in COVID and what
happened to them in the pandemic, and for that rate
to go up, it makes me really really sad. Again,
if you guys need help, I'm gonna leave a couple
of links and please please please search. Also, fifty percent
(07:54):
of the workforce are made up by women, but only
hold ten percent of undred CEO positions. Politically, twenty six
point seven percent of parliamentary seats globally are held by women.
So if you're telling me that fifty percent of the
world is made up by women, yeah, these percentage are
less when it comes to work. So where are all the
(08:14):
women at They're afraid at home, they're scared, or they
don't feel adequate enough, they don't feel worthy enough because
of what society has told us and led us to
believe in our world today. And that's totally not fair.
Like maybe that's just me in the way I grew up.
My mom was very, very very I don't give a fuck.
(08:35):
I'm a woman and she was a woman in her
own class. She went against a lot of men and
she made it out. And I want that to be
a voice and to be able to inspire you ladies today. Also,
I know that whether you guys don't know who my
mom is or you guys do, look her up, Jennaveda,
she is a star and my ultimate inspiration in life.
(08:57):
Do I want to say that my mom was perfect.
She made a lot of mistakes. She was a good mom,
but not the best. But she was a very inspiring woman.
When it came to work, she was business handy. My
mom went through a lot of domestic violence. She went
through a lot of pain in her in her childhood.
That has led her to stand her feet and stand
(09:22):
her ground. And I want that same inspiration for my
own life. Although I haven't gone through what my mother,
my mother went through, I do believe that her story
is impactful and especially in my life, and I want
to be able to lead and guide my children in
a better way than my mother did. And I think
that we all have that one person. So if you
(09:44):
look at if you look and admire at somebody, look
at their mistakes and learn from them and also what
they did, how they impacted the world. My mom was
a strong woman in a very men defined field. All right,
you guys, we're gonna want a quick break and we'll
be right back. Welcome back. Now we're going to get
into it biblically, what does it truly mean to be
a woman. Womanhood is the reflection of God's creation. Obviously,
(10:07):
in Genesis, he talks about creating man kind in his
own image, the image of God. He created male and female,
He created them, and I want you to take that
with you today that whether you're feeling not the prettiest
or you're not feeling the best about yourself, remember that
you are created in his image. You're beautiful and meant
to lead and guide. We are strong and capable, and
(10:29):
we are important instruments to God's plan. For example, Mary, Ruth, Esther, Deborah.
They obviously have impacted the Bible and impacted our world today.
And I want you to take that with you whether
you're feeling less than the other. And I guess it
comes to the point where it says how women should
(10:50):
be treated, and I want to preface this. And the
reason why I wanted to do this with my nieces
as well is because one of them was having a
bad day and she come up to me and she
was like, I don't feel pretty. And that saddened me
so much. It hurt my heart because it's a how
are you so young and feel this way? And then
I reminded myself, I'm like and I told her I'm like, look, baby,
(11:11):
felt I feel the same way sometimes and it's okay.
To feel these things, and I empowered her and I
told her, look, Mama, you are wonderfully and fearfully made.
You are made in the image of God. There's no
one person that's going to take away take that away
from you, or that should change your mind about that.
It is normal to have these feelings, but you have
(11:33):
to take your power back and remind yourself who created
you and why you were created. You have equal value
and equal worth. Every woman deserves the same opportunities and
leadership roles as men. Women should be empowered to lead, speak,
and influence their communities. And we are strong, resilient and
(11:56):
created in God's image. Whether in the workplace, church, or home,
woman deserve to be valued, respected, and empowered. If you
are in a situation where you're not feeling in any
of these things, please leave find your worth. Find your
worth in God, seek the image and the Kingdom of
(12:16):
God so that you can know and feel and ask
God to show you God, I want to see how
you created me. I want to feel what it feels
like to be loved by you. And going back on
to my niece, it just made me sad because it's
also how we treat others in our community, especially in
schools or whatever. I think we could do better as parents.
(12:39):
I'm not even a parent, but as adults and people
that have the ability to lead and guide, we need
to be better by uplifting each other and speaking better
to ourselves, for our children, for the future generations, and
even in our homes. If you guys are married, look husbands, men, brothers.
If you have sisters, look how you're treating your sister.
(13:02):
Treat your sister with with love and respect. Treat your mother,
Honor your mother. Everything that you do is a reflection
to others, and they will take that and so get in.
We air sponges. We soak up information, we soak up experiences,
and people take that and they will bleed it onto
everybody else. So look at it. Look how you're treating people,
and how that could be reflection in our future generations
(13:24):
and societies. And I told myself, I'm going to speak
better about myself in front of my nieces and my nephews.
I'm going to do better by them because they deserve it.
I don't ever want them to feel what I feel.
And if that empowers them, it's going to empower me
more to do better and be better. So if there's
anything I could tell you guys today, women again, you're strong,
(13:44):
resilient and creating God's image. You're valued, respected and empowered.
Whether you feel that today or not, just take those
words and let them soak in your brain and remember
it is beautiful to be a woman. We have the
capability to lead and to guide, and we hold more
power than what has been told to us. So I
(14:05):
want to ask you, guys, how can we do better
by a uplifting woman in our communities. Make sure you
guys let me know in the comments, share your thoughts,
and I want to thank you guys so much for
tuning in. Please subscribe, share and leave a review. And
until next time, remember, empowered women empower the world. See
you guys next two day. Overcome for podcast is a
