Bruce (00:09):
Welcome to the Ugly
Quacking Duck Podcast live show.
Sunny (00:15):
All right Live show we
are.
I'm glad to be here, hi, bruce.
Bruce (00:23):
All right.
Well, hi, Sonny, and I'm gladto have you aboard.
I'm not sure what shape you'regoing to be today if anybody
hasn't listened to our last whatpodcast?
The one before I don't rememberwhich one, but sunny kind of
blew us away and so far he'sstayed morph in this shape.
(00:45):
But who knows, we never knowabout him.
Sunny (00:50):
Nope, you don't know
about me and I don't know about
you and I don't know about them.
So here we are.
Bruce (00:59):
Okay, okay, I hope
everybody's getting this.
I've got a show that we arerecording and that um mike's
working and it looks like we arelive.
I don't know laptop I got setto go and it still says starting
(01:26):
soon.
So I don't know.
Let me run over there and hitit and see if it comes up alive.
I don't know, we'll see.
Hang on.
Okay, I flipped it.
It's rolling out the red carpeton my laptop.
(01:47):
This is just a test to see ifit comes back up.
But nope, starting soon.
Well, that laptop's got the xpon it and that's why I quit
using it, because it was runningoutdated for most of the new
software.
So if my guess would be true, then we probably have an
(02:10):
outdated laptop and it's notgoing to.
Let me even use it to see ifthe audience thing works.
Boo, boo, boo.
Sunny (02:26):
Oh my goodness, are you
all right, bruce?
Bruce (02:30):
Well, not really.
Never have been, probably neverwill be, but hey, that's just
life.
Sunny (02:37):
Well, I can agree with
that.
You never have been, probablynever will be, but anyhow it's
still good to be here.
You know I'm enjoying it and Ienjoyed it last time, but what
happened to the last Friday lastweek?
You want to tell the audience.
Bruce (03:02):
Oh yeah, oh yeah.
Well, we was planning on havinga live show last friday and, uh
, I got up, got everythingplugged in, ready to go and my
internet wasn't working and Ithought, well, I'll go reset
everything, just in case it wasinternal.
(03:23):
So I went and reset the router, reset the modem from our
internet service provider, letall that come back up, and it
was the network internally wasworking.
So I knew everything wasworking in here and and I never
(03:44):
could get any internet past thenetwork to the outside world.
So I thought uh-oh.
And then everybody got up thatmorning and I started finding
out that it went down the nightbefore here, locally, I think.
There was a lot of people outand it stayed out that day until
(04:10):
about 3 30 in the afternoon.
So, needless to say, by thattime I didn't want to try to do
a show that was live.
So I just waited till sundaythat afternoon and recorded my
show, which is kind of a bummerbecause you know I had my heart
(04:30):
set on doing a live.
Getting that started right now,the live's kind of, you know,
just winging it, because I don'thave that many uh people
wanting to be an audience.
I do have some listeners on therecorded part of the podcast,
which I will take this portion, take the recording of this live
(04:54):
show and add it to the rest ofmy podcast and that will be what
everybody normally hears.
But I'm hoping to build up alive audience that will interact
with me and we'll hopefully beable to get some live
participation from businessesand people here locally.
(05:15):
So there you go.
That's why we're having a liveshow, just for the participation
factor of it.
I have talked to a couple ofpeople about coming on board as
guests.
We've just got to fine-tune itwhen we're going to do it, how
we're going to do it.
So Riverside has a very goodopportunity to do that with
(05:41):
call-ins or they can use theircomputer, and it seemed to work
pretty good.
So that is the plan.
And speaking of riverside, letme do a riverside intro, powered
(06:02):
by riverside wow, that was loud.
Sunny (06:15):
It sounded good too yes,
it did.
Bruce (06:19):
Um, I've tried a few of
those out, but, uh, the nice
thing about them, they havethese buttons you can push.
So I wanted to give them alittle bit of an intro, because
we are on their uh website, weare using their application and
we are hoping to continue to doso.
So I gave them a little bit offree advertising because I'm on
(06:43):
their free account.
What do you think about that?
Sunny (06:48):
Well, you like things
free, don't you?
Bruce (06:52):
I do.
Sunny (06:54):
Yeah, so does most
Americans.
Bruce (06:59):
Very true, very true.
Anyhow, my laptop never didcome up, so that's why I left it
and stopped using it and I'lluse my main computer, which
seems to work pretty good.
I just hoped that I could lookover there and see that the
(07:19):
audience portion of the programwas working and I could see the
little details and stuff, likewhen I kicked up my show.
Um, it would actually show upon the screen so any audience
would be able to see it and Iwould know that it was working.
(07:43):
But I just have to believe itis.
I haven't seen any audiencecome in.
I don't know.
That's the way it goes.
Anyhow, we're going to do theplan is just to do a quick live
and we're going to do a littlelocal weather, compare it to
(08:03):
weather out in, let's see wherewas we going to do a little
local weather, compare it toweather out and let's see where
was we going to do it at.
I think I had it out in phoenix, arizona.
Yay, I figured that'd be a goodcomparison in the colder
weather and the warmer weather, and that's the the city that
we're going to use to compareall the time.
(08:23):
When we come on to the localweather.
Then we're going to talk aboutthe earthquakes.
And, man, there's been someuptick on the earthquakes and I
don't have any local stories totell you, except for that outage
.
It was a little over.
What was that?
(08:44):
A day of no internet and uh,well, you want to bet we don't
get any break on our billsyou're always wanting a break
you got that right.
Always wanting a break.
I mean somebody's got yourtheir foot on your neck all your
(09:09):
life.
A little bit of a break wouldhelp yeah, it would all right.
Let's go on with the weatherbefore you bore everybody to
death all right, but one thing Iwould like to bring out, um, if
I may.
Last show, which was two weeksago, I believe, if I counted
(09:31):
right, we had a donation and Ibrought it to everybody's
attention that was listening tothe show.
Um, however, I forgot to do onething.
When people donate, unless theyspecifically tell me they don't
want this done, I gotta find ashortcut here.
(09:55):
So bear with me.
I do one simple little thing, uh, to kind of give them our
little blessing from the uglyquacking duck, and I'm having
trouble finding them where I putit.
It's one of those buttons youknow you hide and then you got
(10:17):
to find it.
Well, yeah, and even though youmay say well, it's just a
dollar, but you know everydollar counts and in this
business, when you're paying out, you know, for the hosting and
the website and the equipment, adollar can make a big
(10:40):
difference.
And I do appreciate not justthe the money aspect of it, but
the mindset to want to help.
So you know, I really wish aappreciate mckenzie that was her
name giving me, uh, thedonation or the support I'm
(11:02):
going to call it support, because that's what it was.
She decided to support ourpodcast and give us that I'm
telling you what?
I can't find it.
Where did I put it?
(11:23):
Where did I put it?
Um, you know, being live, Ican't hardly uh pause it till I
find it, because I gotta keeptalking.
Sunny (11:34):
What do you think about
that, sunny?
All right, well, I think youbetter find it before everybody
gives up on you.
Yeah, uh-huh, I'll tell youwhere it is, but then you
wouldn't like me, no more.
Bruce (11:49):
Oh, I think you're silly,
let me go look for it.
Sunny (11:53):
All right, I'm going to
let you look for it and I'm
going to talk to everybody.
All right, guys, we areoperating out of our studio,
which is inside the house.
We got all the windows openbecause it's about 80 degrees
today and the wind is blowingpretty hard now.
(12:19):
It was calm earlier.
The clouds are moving in and wegot several clouds rolling in
and it looks rough.
But, uh, if you hear rushingnoise besides the highway noise,
if you hear some rushing noise, that's not air rushing through
(12:43):
bruce's ears, that's actuallythe wind blowing through the
windows and at times, wow, it'spretty strong.
But that's what's going on.
As he's looking for this buttonback to you, bruce oh my, oh my
(13:04):
to you Bruce.
Bruce (13:05):
Oh my, oh my.
I like how you just oh, back toyou, bruce.
Didn't even give me a chance torecuperate and I'm still
looking for that button.
But I've got to find it.
And if I don't find it duringthe live show, I will find it
(13:26):
and I will record it and it willbe on the podcast.
But there is one little thing Idefinitely want to do each time
somebody sends in a note oranything like that, I want to
include this for them, sothey'll know that we recognize
them.
So for Mackenzie and for herdonation and support of the
(13:50):
podcast, here you go.
Sunny (13:56):
You've been goosed by the
ugly quacking duck.
Bruce (14:01):
Oh right, that was
pre-recorded by sunny.
Sunny (14:06):
yeah it was, and I
enjoyed that too.
It was fun, but you didn't havethe volume up very loud, so it
didn't work up there and I canjust click on it there.
Bruce (14:32):
Uh, in fact I did my
latin beat beat, latin beat that
sometimes I like to end theshow with and uh, I put it up
there and and that way I canjust click on it up there, I
won't have to hunt it all thetime.
So I may do that for a coupleof these other ones.
They've already got an applauseone, they have a laughing one,
(14:57):
a drum joke, so they've gotquite a few of the ones I've got
on there already.
So they've got quite a few ofthe ones I've got on there
already.
I don't know if they've got aboo, but I've got that recorded
and I've also got the churchbell.
(15:18):
Anyhow, let's go back to theweather.
Okay, I hope somebody'slistening to this.
If not, again, you will catchit on the pre-recorded podcast
when you hear it.
So, taking notice, you know howyou can find out if we're doing
a live.
Go to our website, the uglyquackingcom front page, the home
(15:44):
page.
Scroll down.
There's a place where you canput your email and click on
subscribe.
Do that and anytime I send outa post you'll get an email
message and you can look at thepost, listen to the post, and
when we do the podcast.
I always put it on the webpage, usually at least a day early.
(16:08):
That means the day before myhosting page puts the show out,
so you'll get it early.
Um, we don't charge anybodyanything for this show.
We do it.
We believe in the v for v, thevalue for value.
(16:29):
You get any kind of value outof the show.
If it, you know, tickles yourfancy, gives you a little bit of
hope, changes your mindset longenough that you can get out of
your misery, um, for a few hours, anything like that, any kind
of value.
Then we ask you to return thevalue.
Somehow you can go to oursupport page and see what we're
(16:54):
talking about there.
I've got a quote from anotherperson that talks all about that
and says it a lot better than Ido, but anyhow, yeah, anyhow, I
thought you were going to dothe weather man.
Sunny (17:10):
Come on, dude, what's up
with that?
Bruce (17:15):
Wow, when did you turn
into the 60s generation duck?
Oh wait a minute, you're a frognow.
Sunny (17:22):
Yeah, get it right, Bruce
.
I'm a frog this time around.
I might be something differentnext time.
Bruce (17:32):
Yeah, I called you a
morpher before.
Sunny (17:37):
I know you did and I
don't know if I like that.
Bruce (17:42):
Well, I'll tell you, I
thought about calling you one of
those creatures.
The American people before us,the real American people,
actually had a name for thatkind of being, but I won't
(18:03):
mention that right now.
We'll do it later.
Sunny (18:08):
Oh, you're trying to say
I'm one of those, are you?
Bruce (18:12):
Nope, I'm not saying
anything.
I'm going to talk about theweather.
Sunny (18:16):
Oh you better not saying
anything.
I'm going to talk about theweather.
Oh you better Look out, I knowwhere you sleep.
Bruce (18:23):
Yeah, and you better quit
picking on them cats.
Sunny (18:28):
Oh them poor cats.
I know there's been a couple ofthem really sick.
They're in the hospital.
Bruce (18:35):
Yeah, they are Prayers
out to our two they're in the
hospital.
Yeah, they are Prayers out toour two cats that are in the
hospital.
Believe it or not, they haveanimal hospitals, boy.
They're expensive too.
Anyhow, weather, we're going tothe weather.
Let's go to the weather.
Ready, ready.
I don't know why I did that.
Sunny (18:57):
I don't know why you did
it either, but anyhow, back to
the weather.
Bruce (19:01):
All right, back to the
weather.
All right, the local forecastfor Midwest United States,
southern Illinois, mount Vernonto be exact.
Are you ready?
Here we go.
I'm going to click on detailsand we're going to see what
(19:22):
comes up.
It says for Friday, the 28th,it's 80 degrees here in the
Midwest, southern Illinois, partly cloudy and windy.
Yeah, it is, I'm telling you.
It's windy, high, around 80degrees fahrenheit wind, south,
southwest, at 25 to 35 miles anhour.
(19:44):
See, told you it was windy, higher wind gusts possible.
Now, when this starts doing that, I worry because limbs start
breaking, roof starts ripping.
I mean, there's a lot of thingsthat could go wrong.
Um, but humidity right nowtoday is 39, because it's not
(20:06):
raining yet.
Sunrise was at 6 46 am.
Uh, sunset will be at 7 15 pm.
These are all daylight savingstime, central time times, if
that makes sense.
Um, and then they're predictingfor saturday and sunday rain,
(20:29):
rain all day.
Saturday, sunday, scatteredthunderstorms, and then monday
is supposed to just be cloudy.
66 degrees is what they'repredicting for Saturday and 71
degrees Sunday.
And let's turn the page Ready, here we go.
(20:50):
Well, that didn't do very goodthere.
There you go.
Sunny (20:59):
You turned that page
about 10 times bruce.
Bruce (21:02):
Well, I had to get it
where I could hear it, you know,
on my headset, so everybody outthere and could hear it also.
Anyway, back to the drawingboard.
Right, and let's do ourcomparison.
You know, right now, believe itor not, in phoenix arizona, on
(21:23):
this friday it is, and I justmessed it up, okay.
Okay, see if I can get thatback, because I just messed it
up and phoenix arizona justdisappeared.
(21:43):
There is a phoenix, okay, they're saying, uh, today it is
82 degrees there, so they're alittle bit warmer than we are.
They also have winds,west-southwest, at 10 to 15
(22:04):
miles an hour, so it's a littlebit warmer, not much, and a
little bit less wind.
It is 17 degrees humidity.
It is 17 degrees humidity.
Sunrise was at 620 am andsunset will be at 646 pm.
Wow, a little bit different.
(22:25):
Now, saturday, they're supposedto be partly cloudy and 82
degrees, and Sunday, 83 degreesand full sunshine, and then
Monday, 84 and partly cloudy.
So they're going to be quite abit warmer.
Friday night, just in caseyou're curious, they're supposed
(22:47):
to have 60 degree weather, someclouds and wind back to 10 to
15 miles an hour.
Wow, they have a UV index of 8out of 11.
So that's quite a bit, andlet's go back to our detailed
(23:09):
forecast.
Let me see what the UV we have.
6 of 11.
So that's because we've got somany clouds, clouds, and tonight
it's supposed to be 61 degrees.
We're supposed to be one degreewarmer than they are, but our
humidity is supposed to be like58 percent.
Whoo, all right, the moon issupposed to be rising at 6 19 am
(23:34):
and it's supposed to be a newmoon.
There you go.
That's the uh, mount vernon, southern illinois midwest
weather.
So anybody that enjoyed thatwill have to tell somebody else
about it.
And that is, or it is, friday, the 28th of march 2025.
(24:00):
If you're listening this live, you already knew that, but if
you're hitting the recording ofthe live show, then you don't
know what time it was recorded.
So I gave you that.
There you go.
Sunny (24:14):
Ain't that fun oh, so
much fun.
What's next, bruce?
Bruce (24:23):
well, I'm glad you asked,
because now it's an earthquake
report and you know what Iforgot to do what did?
You forget to do I forgot tohit my record button on my mixer
so therefore I'm having to relytotally on Riverside to capture
(24:45):
this part of the show so I candownload it and get it on the
podcast.
So let's hope nothing messed up.
Sunny (24:54):
Oh, knowing you're like
it did yeah, I had that.
Bruce (24:59):
Uh, I had a real good
live show from, uh uh, pod bean
the first time I used it.
Next time I went in there, usedit, uh, it had some sort of
echo and vibration into themicrophone.
Um, I think it was my laptopthat was causing that, because I
was still using it at time, butI didn't hit record on my mixer
(25:25):
again, forgot to, and so Ididn't have a show, a live show,
to even add to my regularpodcast, which was a bummer.
Uh, because that, you know, wasabout 15 minutes worth of show
and I'm looking I don't know howlong, oh, 26 minutes.
So we're gonna have to cut itshort or we're gonna have to
(25:48):
show the podcast a little bitlonger.
Whatever, let's talk aboutearthquakes.
You want to?
There was a huge earthquake.
I told you there was an uptickin the earthquakes and there was
.
Let me give you a report.
Sonny, you want to guess?
(26:09):
You want to guess what thenumbers are?
Sunny (26:13):
You bet I do.
I like doing that, but you'regoing to have to tell me what it
was last week.
Bruce (26:21):
Okay, well, it wasn't
last week, it was two weeks ago
when we gave the report Let meget my paper out and it was on
3-14.
We had a total of 1,-42.
So, woo man, we had quite a bitthen, but they went down from
(26:44):
the time before.
So what did they do today, sonny, let's go for it.
Tell us what they did.
Sunny (26:56):
All right, now you're not
going to upset me or make me
nervous, that doesn't bother me,I'm used to your weirdness.
But okay, I'm going to guess.
You said it went down last timeand it did.
So I'm going to say this timearound it's went back up.
(27:18):
So how much did it go back?
I'm going to get.
It was somewhere in the 2000s.
The last time we did it, beforethe 14th, so I'm going to guess
it's right around 2000 again.
(27:40):
Is that close?
Bruce (27:45):
Well, yes, I don't know
how you do that.
Sunny (27:50):
Because I'm smart, duh.
Bruce (27:56):
Okay, and Sonny tells us
like it is well sunny, it did go
up and uh, it was.
Uh, actually, when I wrote thisdown uh, you ready for this?
It was 2105, all theearthquakes.
(28:19):
But since then I just looked itback up and it's went down from
there to 2099.
So darn it if you wasn't rightagain.
You know, I've been noticingthat we've been having to round
them off because it's hard toget exactly what they are.
(28:41):
So you guessed in the 2000s andyou guessed it.
Now, if you would have guessed2100, you would have been right
for the number that I justlooked up earlier.
For the number that I justlooked up earlier.
However, for some reason itwent down.
(29:03):
So that tells me that the lastseven-day numbers, some of them,
had dropped off since the lasttime I looked at it.
So we're going to give youalmost on the dot point again.
(29:25):
You've done that so many times.
It's kind of scary.
So let me see if I can.
Sunny (29:35):
Here we go, thank you,
thank you, thank you, thank you,
thank you, thank you, thank you.
Yes, it was nice.
Bruce (29:43):
Thank you.
Sunny (29:48):
Oh, you're so full of it.
I know I learned that from you,big boy.
Don't be big boying me.
Bruce (30:01):
Well, I will, if I want
but anyway, thank you, bruce,
that was fun.
Yeah, you kind of always likeguessing, but, um, lily and I'd
went back on the numbers thatyou'd guessed.
I haven't been writing themdown here lately, but you hit
pretty darn close many times.
(30:21):
Like for a month straight thereyou was almost on the nose,
which is eerie.
I don't know how you do that.
Sunny (30:30):
Well, if I told you I'd
have to kill you.
Bruce (30:37):
Oh, no, no, no, no.
Anyhow, hey guys, that's ourlive show today.
We gave you weather, we gaveyou earthquakes.
Now I'm going to give yousomething sad to go with that.
So, on the earthquake, 2.5 andover for the last seven days was
(31:00):
42.
So they had went down and the4.5 and over was 87 altogether
and they'd went down Well, actually they'd went up two and
they'd went down Well, actuallythey'd went up two.
(31:20):
So the full numbers went upfrom 1942 to 2099.
The 2.5 and over went down from265 to 42, and the 4.5 was at
85 last time.
(31:40):
They were at 87 this time.
So the bad part I said there wasan uptick in the earthquakes,
and there was.
We had several six and overearthquake numbers, and that's
the ones I always break out andread.
So in um, mid-atlanta, um, theridge I wrote this down, can't
(32:08):
read it uh, mid-atlantic ridge, there we go, the-atlantic Ridge
had a 6.1, and then they had a6.6, which is probably the
opposite direction, and abovethat, 6.7.
In Riverton, new Zealand, andthen in Mand mandela, burmer,
(32:40):
which is over, uh, by, in hongkong, by bangkok, and south,
what would that be?
Southeast china area, that areaover there had a six, a 7.7
earthquake early this morningand the last report I seen they
(33:04):
had 150 found that had losttheir life and 730 people were
injured.
And that was the last count.
There's probably more sincethen that's been uncovered and
found, but that was in.
At least 10 people were foundin Bangkok that had passed.
(33:30):
So another bad earthquake Imean anytime you get over six,
you're looking at the verydestructive things happening and
injuries and loss of life, andthis was a 7.7.
So we ask you to uh send prayersfor and to those people and uh
(33:56):
any, uh any family members thathave lost loved ones.
We just ask you to include themin your evening prayers,
morning prayers, however youpray and if you're not a praying
person you really don't believein that we ask for positive
thoughts to go over there andhelp those people.
(34:19):
The ones in mid themid-atlantic bridge probably
didn't do much damage, althoughyou have to wonder what's going
on underneath the surface of theocean.
The sea create theseearthquakes, but that's for
another matter.
Anyway, we're going to leavethat bad thought for you guys.
(34:42):
That's listening live and ifyou're picking this up on the
podcast recording later on.
More to come, but thank you fortuning in as a guest.
More to come, but thank you fortuning in as a guest.
Again, support our page, support our podcast, help us to
keep going, show us that youcare, and you don't have to do
(35:08):
it with financing.
You can do it with interactionswith us.
Interacting with us Sorry aboutthat With artwork, opinions,
ideas.
Um, there's so much that can,you can do to help us, but
anyway, for now, this is ourlive show.
Sunny (35:27):
This is the ugly quacking
duck hey, I'm sunny of the ugly
quacking duck and I am bruce ofthe Ugly Quackin'.
Bruce (35:34):
Duck and I am Bruce of
the Ugly Quackin' Duck and we're
going to say goodbye toeverybody out there.
And don't, if you're listeningto this recording of our podcast
, don't shut it down, becausethere's more to come.
73, y'all Bye.
Well, everybody, we thank youfor, uh, catching the live.
(36:04):
If you didn't catch a live, youjust caught it on the recording
, so that's good too yes, it is,they get to hear my voice, yay.
Sunny (36:20):
Yeah, I think you like
doing that, don't you, sonny?
Oh, yeah, I like it a lot, butI really enjoy just hearing you
talk and hearing some of theguests come back to you.
Oh, wait a minute, that wasjust you echoing.
Bruce (36:36):
Oh thanks, sonny.
Yeah Well, anyway, we do enjoythe podcast, the hobby, the
opportunity.
We would really like to have afew more people come back to us
and be part of the show, butthat'll get there sometime soon,
(36:58):
one of these days maybe.
If not, well, I guess we'lljust keep podcasting, because
that's what we do.
Sunny (37:06):
Yeah, until you run out
of money.
Then what are you going to do?
Bruce (37:11):
I guess I will not edit
it any longer.
I'll just record it, put it upon the host.
That should cut enough cornersthat we can keep doing it.
But not going to do that untilI have to.
Sunny (37:26):
Okay, well, I'm going to
stick with you as long as I can,
because I like it and I enjoyit and it's fun.
All that and all more.
Bruce (37:43):
Wow, I'm not sure how to
take any of that, but, sonny, I
enjoy having you aboard.
You keep it from beingmonotonous and you keep me on my
toes, and sometimes you almostmake sense.
Sunny (37:57):
Well, I'm proud of that.
Yes, I am.
So what are we doing?
Bruce (38:04):
Well, we're putting the
final touches on our podcast.
We had the live.
We talked about the weather, which is getting darker and
windier by the minute and bynightfall we'll probably have a
little bit of rain or before, but we'll have to wait and see.
But it's Friday afternoon lateand we are finishing up and we
(38:30):
gave our earthquake report andthat's 7.7 earthquake.
That's 7.7 earthquake.
That's tremendous.
And they had a video online ofuh bangkok where a building uh
it was a they was doingconstruction on it and had a
crane on top of it and thatwhole building came down.
If you get a chance to watchthat video, you'll have to,
(38:54):
because it's pretty scary.
People were running and it wasa dust cloud.
It looked a lot like the 9-11scene in a smaller scale, but
that thing come tumbling downand it was bad.
Sunny (39:14):
Bad, bad, I, bad, bad,
bad.
I got to see it and, uh, youcould hear people talking, but
they wasn't translated in yourlanguage, bruce my language.
Uh, you mean english yeah, that's what I said okay, well,
(39:35):
all right.
So yeah, we're just putting thefinishing touches on this and
welcoming me welcome while bruceis trying to say he's welcoming
everyone and want to say hi toeveryone.
That's picking up on thepodcast and we hope you come
(40:00):
back again well said, sonny.
Bruce (40:04):
I'm glad you got that out
when I couldn't.
I'm here for you, bruce yeah, weshould have a lot more podcast
listeners.
Uh, even though we didn't haveany of them on live, I gave a
short notice this afternoon, butI've been putting out a lot of
(40:24):
stickers for my podcast at workand I've been talking it up and
I'm hoping that a lot of peopleat least take a few minutes to
listen to our podcast and theyenjoy it and they come aboard
and they spend more time with us.
That's the help, the plan, ohyeah.
Sunny (40:47):
Oh yeah, that's a good
plan, Bruce.
Now all you need to do is talkabout something fun.
Bruce (40:55):
Well, you know me and I
know you, and that's probably
not going to happen.
Sunny (41:02):
You're so boring.
Bruce (41:04):
Thank you, I appreciate
that.
That is Sonny everyone.
He's got an opinion.
Sunny (41:11):
I do, I do.
Bruce (41:16):
All right.
I think you kind of lost yourmarbles when you morphed,
because you are totally actingdifferent who said it was an act
all right, well, you got methere, but um, you know what I
mean.
Uh, no, I don't all right, well, whatever.
Sunny (41:33):
Um, yeah, there should be
a lot of people.
You know what I mean.
No, doubt.
Bruce (41:36):
All right, well, whatever
, yeah, there should be a lot of
people that pick those up atwork, customers and coworkers
alike and hopefully they'll puttheir stickers somewhere where
they'll get other people askingabout it.
And there you go.
I've got a couple of storiesI'm going to talk about today.
(41:57):
Uh, not very long, I don't wantto bore everybody to death, but
, uh, let me see if I can pullthem up and we'll hang on just a
minute.
We'll get them all right.
I'd like to apologize tolisteners out there if they're
hearing the rumble go by.
(42:19):
I've got the windows open.
It's a nice day today and I'mnot going to shut them.
I'm enjoying the wind comingthrough the studio.
So every now and then you hearthat roar, and then a lot of
times you will hear the carsgoing by and trucks, because we
(42:42):
live on an older highway and ithas a lot of traffic.
So if you're hearing that, justbear with me, because I'm just
wanting you to kind of ignore itwhile we talk, because it's um
kind of noisy, but it's nice tohave that air rush yeah, I think
(43:07):
you like recording the podcastinstead of doing the live,
because you can pause it andtake a drink and nobody knows.
Sunny (43:16):
And besides that, what
was you drinking on the live?
That was a weird bottle.
Bruce (43:25):
Oh, you noticed that, did
you?
Yes, I did.
Well, it was tonic water, believe it or not.
A lot of people use that topour in their alcohol, but it
has good effects if you drink itseparate by itself, and it has
a chemical in it.
(43:47):
That's good for things, butanyway, I was drinking that.
I try to drink one or two ofthose a week.
Sunny (43:56):
Oh, you're a weirdo.
Bruce (43:59):
Well, thank you, I
appreciate that and yeah, anyhow
, all right.
Well, the first story that Iwanted to highlight is one that
affects me and many, many, many, many other people in this world
, and especially this time ofyear it's really highlighted by
(44:24):
a lot of people and that isallergies by a lot of people.
And that is allergies.
And this story comes from you, from the AAFA.
The AAFA, which, what that is,is the Asthma and Allergy
(44:46):
Foundation of America, aafaorg.
Visit it, it sometime, check itout, but they have an article
here on at the allergy capitalsof america.
So in the us they did somestatistics, polls and all kinds
(45:06):
of things and it goes throughthere about what they checked
and anywhere from trees andgrass and weed pollen all the
way up to pollen, count, climatechanges and urban areas and all
that stuff, and they come upwith 10 of the most.
What do they call it?
(45:28):
Most, not awesome, worst, Iguess you could say cities for
allergies, and I'm going to readyou those.
Guess what the top one is.
Sunny (45:45):
Is it southern Illinois,
right where we're at?
Bruce (45:53):
No, that'd be a good
guess, but no, I um, I guess the
top 10.
It starts out number one wouldbe the the worst one, wouldn't
it, or would that?
I don't know how they did this, but the top one on number one,
which what I would think wouldbe the worst one, is Wichita,
kansas.
(46:14):
Wow, and they probably downhere give what that criteria was
to make it to number one.
But I'm not going to.
I should have read these theother way, but I'm not going to
worry about that.
Number two New Orleans,louisiana.
(46:36):
I think Wichita was probablybecause of the dust and all the
stuff around them.
I would say a lot of farmlandthere.
New Orleans, I don't know whyit was.
I guess because of the trees, trees.
They got a lot of trees, a lotof water.
Oklahoma city is the next one.
Oklahoma, tulsa, oklahoma uh,more dry, dirt land, probably a
(47:05):
farmland, I mean uh, mem, tennessee, little Rock, arkansas
, raleigh, north Carolina.
Number eight Richmond, virginia.
Number nine Greenville, southCarolina.
And number 10 on the list, greensboro, north Carolina.
(47:28):
So if you're in one of thosecities you can probably quote
that.
This is bad allergy area, especially this time of year,
and I was shocked that nowherein this list.
Southern Illinois hit Illinoishit.
(47:48):
We have a lot of farmlandaround here and a lot of ragweed
A lot It'll grow out in theditches during the summer and a
lot of pollen.
Hard to believe that it wasn'ton the list, but apparently it's
worse in other areas, which I'mglad I'm not in those areas.
(48:10):
I don't know how I can do a30-minute live or 26 minutes or
whatever it was, and my voicestay all right and then I start
doing the recording and itstarts giving me problems.
But, like I said, I got thewindow open, so the wind's
(48:31):
probably blew something inbecause the storm's almost here
and I'm probably reacting to it.
Sunny (48:39):
You're just reacting for
sure.
Ah, ah, ah.
Bruce (48:47):
All right, Sonny, knock
it off.
Sunny (48:51):
No.
Bruce (48:55):
Yeah, I knew you was
going to say that.
All right, that was our firststory and we're going to move on
before he has a conniption fitin front of me and on the radio
or the audio.
Now I found this articleactually quite interesting
(49:16):
because it talks about guesswhat?
Honey, yeah, and I love honey.
I drink it in my, you know, ifit's tea or whatever I drink, I
like to put honey in there, Ilike to put it on my bread.
Pretty well, anything I fix, Ilike to have honey with it.
(49:38):
But anyway, this article talksabout why nectar can be.
Or let me get back to it, honeydoesn't go bad and they say
that it lasts forever.
(49:59):
Yep, really it does.
They say.
That's what they say.
That's the title of the article.
The article's actually found inFood Wine, our Food Wine
website.
It's called foodandwinecom andI found it there and I thought,
(50:25):
wow, this is kind of interesting.
But anyway, they talk about whyhoney never spoils and it is
explained by that.
The nectar can be up to 70percent water and then it's
evaporated to produce theconsistency that the honey were
(50:49):
familiar with, and this is doneby the bees and I did not know
they went through all thistrouble to make honey.
But apparently they do this byfanning the honeycomb with their
wings and it helps encouragerapid evaporation from of the
(51:10):
water.
And with the compound added toit, then the flapping
continually, they reduce thewater content.
Are you ready for this?
17%.
And the article goes on andtalks about how that's not an
(51:31):
easy feat.
But with that kind of waterthat's much lower than that of a
bacteria or a fungi.
So they lower the water amountin that honey and apparently
(51:52):
that makes the honey not spoilalong with its other compounds,
which is kind of cool.
I knew honey didn't go bad.
Now it will.
I forget what they call it, butit will get into kind of like a
hardened state and all you haveto do is heat it back up and
it'll be fine.
(52:13):
I like to.
I get it in jars a lot of times.
I'll take a spoon and scrape itoff the side and put it in my
tea and as soon as it hits thetea it just melts.
But I like doing that.
So that's a little tip of theday for somebody out there.
Sunny (52:37):
Go to foodandwinecom and
check it out.
Wow, I think I've learnedsomething about you you like
honey.
Bruce (52:46):
Yeah, you got that right.
I like honey Since I've gothome from the hospital.
What was that now?
Three, four years ago?
No, it was longer than that2019,.
What is this?
2025.
So that would make it six yearsago.
(53:07):
Wow, five and a half really, because it won't be until
November to be exactly six.
But anyway, since I've been home, I totally cut out my sugar
because they said it wasn't goodfor me and I didn't want to
deal with any more of that kindof stuff.
So I got rid of it and I'vebeen eating honey ever since.
(53:28):
I liked honey before, but itwas so much easier to deal with
sugar and get it and buy it, putit away, so I just kept using
sugar, but not anymore.
I very, very seldom ever putany sugar on it or in anything.
Um, I just don't want to takethat risk now.
(53:51):
I know there's a lot of sugarin stuff we eat.
Already they put tons of it in.
So you got to watch out.
I try to stay away from that.
And I like chocolate.
I have to admit I like, likechocolate.
Sunny (54:06):
He likes chocolate.
Bruce (54:11):
You ought to see him eat
chocolate.
Well, I try to only eat likeone chunk, one piece.
Like them Hershey Kisses.
I like to just take one ofthose a day for a snack.
Or there's some other littlecandy bars.
I'll just eat one.
But every now and then I get inthat fixed habit I don't know
(54:33):
why that I have to have more andfor three or four days I'll be
eating a bunch, and then it justmakes me almost sick afterwards
.
So I don't know what compels meto to do that, but I have to do
it uh, you're silly, nuts andcrazy, a little bit of moody
(54:55):
there too thank you once again.
Sonny speaks out.
Yay, you've been doing that alot more lately, son.
Sunny (55:06):
Sonny, I know I am
speaking out, isn't that why you
got me on here?
Bruce (55:13):
Well, we'll just go with
that, okay.
Sunny (55:17):
All right, we'll just go
with that for sure.
Bruce (55:24):
Okay, all right, next
story.
This is interesting and let mesee if I can pull it up on my
(55:45):
computer.
But this is about plastic.
Everybody knows how plastic hasbecome a huge problem, and
getting rid of it's what reallyhas become a problem.
Well, apparently the scientistshave found a way to break down
plastic.
They use inexpensive catalystsand air and they break it down.
And they break it down to itsbasic property, and I forget
(56:10):
what it's called oh, it's agreat big, long word, that's why
I forgot it.
But basically it's thefoundation of all plastics and
it breaks it down that safely, cheaply, and then they can use
it to remake more plastics.
So it's a win-win.
(56:32):
Now I don't know when they'regoing to start building
factories to get rid of ourplastic, which I hope soon but
it's a safer, cleaner, cheaperand more sustainable way to
recycle plastic, and that's whatthis article is saying.
This article is onnorthwesternedu.
It's a Northwestern Collegeliterature.
(56:59):
If you want to see it, go lookit up.
Northwesternedu, it'snewsnorthwesternedu, and it
(57:25):
talks about plastic recycling, which is cool.
I like the idea.
We like it's simple.
Um, it should we, it shouldrevolutionize plastic so we can
use it, get rid of it.
Then all we have to do isfigure out how to get all the
junk plastic out of our bodies.
That's another story for Allright, the last but not least
(57:49):
article that I picked out.
This one I've been hanging onto for quite a while, but it's
about something that we all use, hopefully, and that you've
probably used at least oncetoday, and it's about how often
we ought to clean it.
So anybody want to take a guesswhat it is my hair, I bet.
it's about how often we ought toclean it, so anybody want to
(58:10):
take a guess what it is my hair,I bet it's about my hair.
Sonny, you don't have any hair.
Sunny (58:18):
Not yet.
Bruce (58:20):
You're going to be a
weird-looking animal if you grow
hair on that skin.
Sunny (58:27):
Oh, you ain't seen
nothing yet, buddy.
Bruce (58:31):
All right.
Well, if anybody don't know, sonny turned into a frog from a
duck the other day, morphedright in front of our eyes.
It was kind of spooky and weirdand fun at the same time.
Sunny (58:47):
Thank you, I'm glad.
The same time, thank you, I'mglad I could do that for you.
Bruce (58:52):
But now he's a frog, big
green lump of something that
sits around with headphones onhis ears and a microphone in his
hand, and that's all he doesall day long.
Every now and then he gribbitsat us, but now he's talking
(59:13):
about growing hair.
Sunny (59:16):
Oh, I'm talking about a
lot of stuff, but we'll let that
go for later.
Bruce (59:21):
I think you should have
done this on Halloween, because
that would have been a neattrick.
Sunny (59:27):
Oh, it would have been
too spooky.
Then you would all scream andrun away like a little baby you
think, yeah, okay, well, anyway, what we're talking about?
Bruce (59:43):
sunny and all my audience
out there were talking about
towels, towels, that's right.
I ran across this article quitea while back and I just put it
in a little corner and saved itbecause I thought that's kind of
weird.
But they were talking about whyyou probably aren't washing
your towels often enough.
And they went through andtalked about how microbes build
(01:00:07):
up on the towel and they talkabout how long should you wait
before throwing them into thelaundry.
And that was one of the lineson the article and I thought,
well, that's interesting, tellme.
So I went through the wholearticle and they talked about
how that many of us will popthem in and wash them once a
(01:00:28):
week.
Some found a third of them didit once a month and a few,
according to the UK, admit theyonly do it once a year.
Yeah, once a year, but itdoesn't say how many times they
used that towel before doingthat.
They just said they did it, youknow, once a week or once a
(01:00:49):
month.
That's washing them.
And, uh, they go ahead and gothrough the article talking
about how our bodies are coveredwith microbes and when we dry
off.
A lot of times they willtransfer to the towel.
Now I'm not sure if that'spossible.
If we've washed with soap, maybe soap's not killing them, I
(01:01:12):
don't know.
But if you do this and leavethe towel in the same room as
the lavatory for you guys thatdon't know that's the stool,
(01:01:34):
don't know that's the stool, that, um, disgusting enough,
when you flush you're likelygiving them towels more bacteria
from your toilet.
Wow, yeah.
And over time they uh, they saythat your towel can become dull
and actually change colors fromall this, even after you wash
it, you'll notice a difference.
(01:01:55):
So I went through that wholearticle, which I find quite
interesting, hoping that theywould tell me when you should
wash your towel.
But guess what they never did?
Yep, they pondered the question, posed it to everybody that
(01:02:17):
read the article, but theydidn't actually come up with a
answer.
What they did say in thearticle was clearly, the longer
we used house and the longerthey stay damp, for the more
hospitable the environment formicrobes they become, increasing
(01:02:40):
the chance of harmful microbesgrowing on them.
And that was the scientistscomment that had studied this
and posed this question.
But now I've it's been a whilesince I've read that article and
(01:03:02):
maybe I missed, overlooked.
Let me scroll down through herereal quick.
But they talk about how to scanand and.
No, I don't think they ever didactually come up with.
You know the way they talk.
(01:03:23):
You'd think you'd want to washit right after using it, which I
don't believe.
You'd think you'd want to washit right after using it, which I
don't believe.
That would be very good foryour budget and your water bill
and all that stuff.
But they said one study inIndia actually showed 20% of
people who responded werewashing their towels as often as
(01:03:46):
twice a week.
Now you see that or hear that20% of those that responded.
So that means 80% were doingsomething else.
But they told you about the 20%.
So I don't know what they weretrying to accomplish in this
article.
Maybe they're just wanting tomake everybody nervous about
(01:04:08):
their towels.
So you know, we got enoughhypochondriacs in this world.
Maybe they want to make a fewmore and make money off of them.
I do agree that towels canbecome very dirty, but I don't
think they're making you sickunless you are doing weird
things on them towels.
But, anyhow, that's the lastarticle for the day.
Sunny (01:04:31):
Oh my gosh, Wow, yuck, is
that often enough.
Bruce (01:04:42):
Often enough for what.
Sunny (01:04:44):
I don't know.
We're just talking about howoften Was you even paying
attention?
No, I was daydreaming, sorry.
Bruce (01:04:55):
Okay.
Well, I hope folks out there inour listening land has not fell
asleep, but we're going to bidyou guys farewell.
This is the Ugly Quacking Duck.
I'm Bruce.
Sunny (01:05:09):
And I'm Sunny.
I'm Bruce and I'm Sonny.
I'm glad to be here and I'mglad everyone was here and
listened to our podcast.
Bruce (01:05:18):
Yep, and I would like to
welcome and say thank you to all
the new listeners.
Hopefully there was a bunch ofthem from all all the uh
stickers we passed out and allthe talking that we've done up
on the podcast, about thepodcast, over the last couple
weeks.
So we're really trying to pushit.
(01:05:40):
Hopefully, folks, I'm gonna geta couple guests, guests online.
We're going to start talking alittle bit more to people.
I'm hoping the live show we cando a quick interview and
highlight a pastor or a churchin our local area and maybe a
(01:06:03):
business as as it grows and I'mnot talking about the podcast,
I'm talking about the live show.
It's kind of a separate butadded entity, but hopefully it
will grow and I'll get moreexcitement level from the people
locally and we can get somemore live there.
(01:06:24):
So, anyhow, everybody have agreat weekend.
It's Friday now by the time youhear this.
It'll probably be Sunday orMonday, but in that case, have a
good week, yeah.
Sunny (01:06:40):
Enjoy your life.
In other words, yeah.
Bruce (01:06:43):
And speaking of that,
I've got one quick.
Well, it's not one, but a fewBible verses I have saved up.
I wanted to read, I wanted tolet you guys have this to say
bye.
So instead of playing the musicI usually do, we're going to
end the show, the podcast, withthis Bible verse and I've saved
(01:07:08):
it up and it's in Matthew 23, ifyou want to look it up later.
But hopefully you'll getsomething good out of it and I
want you to pay attention.
This may have been written inthe time Yeshua walked this
(01:07:29):
earth and I don't know historyvery well, so I'm not sure
exactly what was going on, but Ireally believe these verses
were talking futuristic.
And what's going on now?
So here we go.
Then he's All right, sorryabout that.
(01:07:55):
Um, then you somebody's notwant me to talk today, but
anyway, then you shoot yeshua.
Who, yahushua?
There we go, I got it out, thank you.
Father Spoke to the crowds andto his disciples, saying the
scribes and the Pharisees haveset themselves down in Moses'
(01:08:18):
seat.
All things.
Therefore, whatever they maytell you, do and keep, but do
not after their works.
For they say and do not.
Okay, you guys got that.
He's telling them people nowthe pharisees and scribes were
(01:08:39):
the church leaders and he saidthey're telling you things, you
need to do those things and keepthose things, but don't do
their works.
All right, I'm gonna read alittle bit more.
But bind burdens this is whatthey do, but do not after their
(01:09:02):
works.
For they say and do not, butbind burdens heavy and hard to
bear and lay them on theshoulders of men but will not
move them with their finger.
In other words, they won't lifta finger to do what they are
thrown upon the people to do.
(01:09:23):
Have we not seen that before?
And all their works they do tobe seen of men we see this all
through life for they make broadtheir I can't say that I'm
(01:09:43):
having a hard time anyway andenlarge their borders of their
garments and the love of chiefplaces in feasts and first seats
in the synagogues.
They love those spaces.
In other words, they love theprime thing, the big thing, the
(01:10:04):
things that makes them feel goodwhile the rest of us sit and
are not allowed, and salutationsin the marketplaces and to be
called of men.
Now they're still talking aboutwhat they like to do.
They like salutations or beinghighlighted in the marketplaces
(01:10:28):
and to be called of men Rabbi, rabbi, but you be not.
You called Rabbi, for one isyour instructor, and all you are
brethren.
And call not anyone your fatherupon the earth, for one is your
father, he who is in theheavens.
(01:10:50):
Now I really wondered if hewasn't talking about a certain
religious group that we havetoday, seeing it back then,
futuristic.
Anyway, neither be calledinstructors, for one is your
instructor, the anointed one.
(01:11:10):
